Plex Setup Guide

Follow these steps to get connected and start watching.

1Get a Plex Account & Invite

First, you'll need a free Plex account. If you don't have one, create one on their website.

Create a Plex Account

Once you have an account, enter the email address you used to sign up below. This will open your email client with a pre-filled message to me so I can send you an invitation to the server.

2Download the Plex App

Plex works on almost any device. Download the app for your phone, tablet, smart TV, or streaming stick.

3Find & Pin "The Tower"

After I send the invite and you accept it, you'll need to make sure my server is "pinned" to your sidebar so it's easy to find.

  1. Open the Plex app and sign in.
  2. On the left-hand menu, scroll down and click "More ▼".
  3. You should see my server, named "The Tower". Hover over it.
  4. Click the three dots () that appear.
  5. From the menu, select "Pin".
  6. "The Tower" will now appear directly on your sidebar for easy access!

4Recommended Settings

For the best viewing experience, make sure your video quality is set to "Maximum" or "Original". This prevents my server from having to work extra hard. Here's how to check on common devices:

During playback, click the settings (gear) icon. Find the "Quality" setting and change it to "Play Original Quality" or "Maximum". You may also need to check the main app settings (usually from your user icon on the home screen) and set "Remote Streaming Quality" to Maximum.

In the Plex app, tap your user icon, then go to Settings > Quality. Under "Remote Streaming", set the quality to "Maximum". This will ensure you get the best picture when you're away from home.

5Accessing Live TV

In addition to movies and shows, we have custom, 24/7 "live" channels! You can find these in the "Live TV" section in the Plex sidebar. Here's what's on:

30 minute sitcoms, great for turning off your brain and laughing

Home Renovations, Gardening and more.

Marvel, DC, Original? We've got it all.

It's like Food Network. An œuf said. What you don't like my yoke?

Crank up the surround sound!

Christmas all the time!

Some people just like to be scared.

Age appropriate for the littlest ones. Educational or narrative, nothing that Mr. Rogers wouldn't approve of.

Still educational and narrative, maybe a little bit more engaging.

More narrative driven. Plus Star Wars.
